Awards 2007

Notable winners included the youngest ever Broadcast Journalist of the Year, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, who had worked on the Unreported World series for Channel 4. Exceptionally, the jury could not separate the two winners of the television documentary award, which went to Tea Boy of Gaza and The 12 Year Old Cocaine Smuggler, both from the BBC 2 strand This World.

The 2007 Special Award for Development Media went to Radio Sagarmatha, a community radio station in Nepal, and South Asia's first independent radio station. Radio Sagarmatha continued broadcasting even when the King's regime banned all independent stations from carrying news. At one point, they broadcast the news in song to make sure they stayed within the law.
