We launched our Fellowship scheme in 1996 and since
then more than 60 senior broadcasters from over
25 developing countries have benefited, by coming to
the UK and taking part in a specifically tailored
programme of activities.

Each year, the Fellowships have offered a programme of professional development in the UK across editorial management and standards, broadcasting technology, regulation, research and policy. The Fellows have met their counterparts in UK broadcasting for two-way exchanges on the role of the media in society and developments in media around the world.

Currently, we are reviewing how the scheme works and how effective it is in the changing media environment. For the time being we are not taking applications. Until our review is complete we will run occasional professional development programmes for media workers in developing countries on an invitation-only basis. For example, in 2011, we ran a mini-fellowship for three professionals from Kenya who run an innovative youth radio project.

Most recently, in spring 2012, we sent a UK-based drama director to Nairobi for six weeks to develop the skills of Well Told Story, an independent production company producing radio dramas.

If you have any comments about the kind of professional development you would like us to offer in future, whether you are a media worker in the UK or elsewhere, please email us at contact@oneworldmedia.org.uk

We will update this page when our review is complete and we have developed a new approach. In the meantime, click on the links above to find out more about the past Fellowship activities.

"I would like to begin by expressing my gratitude to you, One World Media. Your efforts in organizing this fellowship for journalists from developing countries is truly inspiring. Please continue to help us as we strive to help others in our part of the world."
