Gemma Bradshaw Appointed Director of One World Media

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Gemma Bradshaw as the new Director of One World Media, taking over from Clothilde Redfern who has left the team after six years. Gemma will take up her appointment in mid-October.

Originally from the UK, Gemma has been working in the US for the past six years. Most recently she was Director of Programs for the Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA), leading the global expansion of education program SIMA Classroom and online cinema club SIMA RAMA. Before that, as COO for the San Francisco Green Film Festival, Gemma focused on growing the reach of the festival and engaging audiences in action. In the UK, Gemma led the centre for local sustainability at the local democracy think-tank LGiU and worked as policy adviser at Age UK. She started her career in local government and environmental policy.

In her new role, Gemma will focus on advancing One World Media’s mission to promote excellence in media coverage of the wider world by building on our key programmes: the One World Media Awards, an annual events programme, the Production Fund and the Global Short Docs Forum. She will also continue our work in bringing together major partners across the media and international development sectors to create a platform for unreported stories from around the globe.

We look forward to welcoming Gemma to the One World Media team.

“We are delighted to appoint Gemma Bradshaw. She comes ready with formidable achievements behind her in the USA, combined with a passion for exactly the kind of content and talent One World Media champions. I am sure that she will build on the significant success that OWM has enjoyed over the last few years under the leadership of Clothilde Redfern, who we thank and wish all the very best in her new role leading the Rory Peck Trust. Gemma joins OWM at a meaningful milestone and we are certain she will skilfully pilot the organisation into the next exciting phase of its development.”

John Willis, Chairman of the OWM Board of Trustees

“I have always been interested in the power of media to influence public debate and act as a springboard for change globally. At a time when the media’s role is increasingly being undermined around the world, it is vital to champion filmmakers and journalists covering developing countries with creativity, integrity and transparency. These values are at the heart of One World Media and I’m honoured to be joining them as they celebrate their 30th anniversary year. I look forward to working with the staff, board of trustees and supporters to continue building on the organisation’s legacy of promoting stories that can break down prejudice and promote justice and truth. Together, we have the purpose of bringing underreported stories to the fore and enable new voices to be heard that can end global inequalities.”
